110 accommodations

Hai Ba Trung is a central residential district just south of the French Quarter, named after the Trung sisters, two heroines who led a rebellion against Chinese rule in the first century. It stretches from the boulevards near Hoan Kiem towards the Red River and the south of the city, and it mixes French-era streets, busy markets, universities, hospitals and, further south, modern residential complexes such as Times City. It is a practical, local area with lower prices than the centre and the lake only a short ride away.

On this site Hai Ba Trung covers the old district, from the streets bordering the French Quarter to Bach Khoa, Minh Khai and Times City. Since July 2025 it has been divided into new wards, but addresses and residents still use the name Hai Ba Trung.

Who should stay in Hai Ba Trung?

Hai Ba Trung suits budget and mid-range travellers who want to stay close to the centre without the crowds of the Old Quarter, visitors on longer stays, families renting apartments in the large residential complexes and business travellers with work in the area. The trade-off is that most of the district is residential, with few sights and less English away from the main streets; from the southern part, around Times City, the centre is 20 to 30 minutes away by car.
